Foggy Dubai

November 8th, 2009

I don’t know how your weekend was, but mine has been a bit of a mix of things. First of all, for those of you that visit this site from somewhere else than the UAE, you should know that the weekend here is Friday - Saturday as opposed to Saturday - Sunday. On Friday morning I was supposed to pick my parents from the airport at 5am so I woke up at 4:30 and made my way to the airport only to find out that their flight got diverted to Al Ain (a town in the UAE about 130km away from Dubai). This turned out into a 6 hour wait with my parents being stuck in the plane on the runway in Al Ain.

Since I was already awake that early I thought I’ll take my camera out and capture a bit of an unusual view of Dubai covered in thick fog. There weren’t many locations I could go to take some interesting photos when it’s that foggy, but then I remembered some cool photographs of the San Francisco Bay Bridge dissapearing into the fog and immediately Business Bay Bridge here in Dubai came to mind. This is shot from right under the bridge at about 6am and it’s an HDR made out of 7 exposures with a 1E.V. step between them. The sky and water are masked from the original -1E.V. exposure to reduce the amount of noise in the photograph.
