My favourite shots in 2009
2009 ends in a couple of days and what better way to finish it off than to post my favourite images I posted this year. One for each month! Of course, this is all very subjective and you might have enjoyed other photographs more. If so, tell me in the comments and maybe I’ll revisit the top. I would also love to hear which one was your favourite photograph this year.
I wish you a Happy New Year and may 2010 be bigger and better than all the years before!

May – King’s College

June – The de Havilland Comet

I am quite surprised “Invaders” was not in the top 12…
By Catalin on Dec 29, 2009 | Reply
Don, like I said, it’s all very subjective. The “Invaders” shot was in the same month with the “Emirates Towers” ones and I felt this one was stronger.

Great collection – loving them all to be honest.
Normally I hate HDR, but The de Havilland Comet is an amazing shot. And I do like Foggy Dubai too.
For a more \classic\ shot Open Space is fantastic.
Well done!

Definitely December, in my current mood, but tomorrow maybe September!

Dxbluey, thanks. I didn’t really expect so many people to like the Comet shot (I got quite a few responses on Twitter). It’s great because it’s one my favourites also.
Rupertbu, I think the September landscape is one of those places that can make any worry go away.

As always, a stunning collection. The Comet is great because I think it shows how HDR can be used to enhance a story. One can almost smell the leather sheepskin flying coats, aviation fuel and young men with fine moustaches saying: “Chocks away, chaps!”
One of my fave shots of the year is the man with wizened fingers in Rajastan (?)
Of the 12 selected, my choice would be Foggy Dubai for its irony in a year of upheaval and a lack of transparency.

Andrew – “Chocks away, chaps!”? That’s great! Maybe I’ll use that as my motto for 2010!
The man from Rajastan? Do you mean the “Singer” shot (http://www.momentaryawe.com/blog/?p=842) ?
As for the Foggy Dubai, I didn’t think of it the way you did, but that’s a great analogy!

A great set of shots, and a great way to end the year

David, thanks! It means a lot coming from you since most of these images used elements of your tutorials!

Ah, found the “wizened fingers” shot. It’s Guru #2 in Katmandu. A tad over-exposed? But a fine shot nonetheless.
By Catalin on Jan 10, 2010 | Reply
Andrew, now I know which shot you’re talking about. Yes it was one of my favourites as well, but like you noticed, maybe a bit over-exposed. I did have to do quite a lot of work in Photoshop to make it “bloggable”.

I really like the HDR, and architecture! The last one of the India Garden is really nice and relaxing. I like how it is dreamy and it flows, great shot!
Thanks for giving us a round up!

Wonderful images. A prime examples of how to work with the HDR technique and not have it be a gaudy mess. I really like “After the Storm” and “Foggy Dubai”, but I actually think “Long Neck” is my favorite.
Thanks for sharing, looking forward to see what you come up with in 2010!

Great selection of capture, thank you for putting that up and sharing!!

Andre, thanks! Long Neck seems to be quite a favourite on my Flickr stream. It’s been number 1 for almost a year now.
Mr Din, thank you!
