Symmetry
This year I was not sure if I’ll be in Dubai during the GPP 2010, so I didn’t sign up for any of the courses. My trip got cancelled at the last moment and upon finding out that David has secured permission to shoot at the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) for his HDR course I quickly signed up as I always wanted to go there a whole day and shoot. We spent most of today there and I think in the next few weeks I will post quite a few shots from there as I’ve got quite a few that I’m happy with.
Since the day was dedicated to HDR, the shot below was tone-mapped from 7 exposures with a 1 E.V. step. Also there are quite a few curves in Photoshop to bump up the contrast in the glass and to bring out some of the details in the walls. I just find the glass in DIFC a great subject to photograph as it takes this slight green tint and there are always some nice yellow shades from the inside lights.

Excellent and unusual shot! I really look forward to the rest of your shots from DIFC as I love this area of Dubai and think it makes for the most fascinating architectural shots, especially after seeing those shots David took from there. I am gutted I did not sign up for the course, as I have always wanted to shoot there and of course no one is allowed. Are you doing any of David’s other workshops..? I am taking his Landscape one later in the week…

That looks great, and I’m glad you enjoyed today.

Jason, thanks! It was a really nice day and we had more than enough time to go around and get the angles we wanted. I’m only doing this workshop as I wasn’t sure if I would be in Dubai this week.
David, thanks! It really was a great day and I enjoyed the relaxed pace of it all…

Beautiful colours; as they say, the symmetry is perfect. Lots of detail too.
