Depth of field

November 23rd, 2012

As I pack my bags for my upcoming Argentina and Antarctica trip, I wanted to leave you with yet another image of Dubai, this time taken in Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT), a fairly new development in Dubai. This area has been under construction for quite a while now, but over the last few months it’s really coming together as a nice place to take an evening stroll and of course take some pictures.

I was there doing a photo recce for a client, trying to figure out what the best angle (and time of the day) is for one of the towers when I turned to my right and noticed this shot, with all the buildings leading your eyes towards the center of JLT.

On another note, as I just mentioned, tomorrow I am going away for a few weeks, at first spending a couple of days in Buenos Aires, then making my way down to the end of the world in Tierra del Fuego, boarding a boat in Ushuaia heading towards Antarctica and crossing the infamous Drake Passage. On my way back I will be trekking a few days around Ushuaia and then spend the last 2 days in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. Since this will be a photography trip I will do my best to blog as often as I can showing you some of the places I’ll be seeing.

Also, as the end of the year is approaching fast, if you’ve been enjoying reading the blog, I would appreciate a vote in the 2012 Photoblog Awards (just click on the banner at the right). Last year, with your help I won the best photoblog for Asia and Oceania.

Glowing reflections

November 19th, 2012

As I prepare for my upcoming Antarctica trip (ten more days to go!) I am focusing on posting quite a few images from Dubai to clear the way for new images from the Southern part of the world.

As I mentioned in my last post I have been shooting quite a bit over the last few days and although the image I’m posting today was only a byproduct of a commercial shoot I did on Thursday it also turned out to be one of my favourite Dubai images in a while. As you can see it shows the ever present Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, but I think the difference here is the unusual viewing angle between all these buildings glowing from the setting sun.

If you roll-over the image to see the original you will notice that I did quite a bit of post-processing on this one, with a few heavy curves to bring back those reflections and get a bit more blue in the sky.

Endless clouds

November 18th, 2012

It’s very rare that I can title a post “Endless clouds” and make that post about Dubai because most of the times there are no clouds here. But once in a blue moon you get a beautiful day like we had yesterday when the sky is just full of little fluffy clouds.

I wasn’t even planning on shooting yesterday, but when I saw how cool the skyline looked I grabbed my camera and went to one of my favourite roofs to capture a very similar scene to what I have photographed before from there, but this time with clouds! The light was a bit harsh, but I still like the end result.
