Inside ADFC
As you might know if you’ve been following my Instagram feed, over the last few weeks I have been shooting quite a lot in Abu Dhabi, both corporate stuff as well as architectural images.
A couple of months ago I posted an image of the Abu Dhabi Financial Centre shot for a client of mine. It was more of an establishing photograph of the development and at the time I thought that was all that was needed. However, the client asked me if I could shoot some of the interior spaces as well so a few weeks ago I spent a day there coming up with a few images.
One of my favourites from the day is this image which is taken from the lobby of one of the buildings, looking up towards the  beautiful glass ceiling. I did quite a bit of perspective correction on this one as it was a very awkward position to shoot from and I couldn’t line up everything in camera.

Byblos Hotel
This weekend I attended one of the always interesting photography workshops that Gulf Photo Plus is running every year during their FotoWeekend event. As always the workshop didn’t disappoint! It was a two day long interiors photography class with Scott Hargis focusing on lighting interior spaces in the first day and then adding some people to those compositions during the second day. I have been looking forward to this workshop for a couple of months now and I was very curious to hear more about how Scott approaches his shots, both from a composition point of view as well as a lighting point of view.
The first day we were given a few hotel rooms in Byblos Hotel in Dubai Marina and for me these rooms turned into a two day shoot. As I photographed the room below in the first day I noticed that there was a very cool view of one of the metro stations across the road in Jumeirah Lake Towers. Being Friday the trains didn’t start going until late in the afternoon (don’t ask me why, but this is how trains run here!) so I planned on going back to the same room the next day to capture the exact same shot but with the train going past the window.
For those of you more technically inclined, the scene was lit with two strobes, one camera left bounced on the left wall and another one camera right directed towards the armchairs.

Early mist
While in Madagascar a few months ago, every day seemed to always start before sunrise as there was always something to see or somewhere to go. Particularly along the river, life starts very early and the first signs of activity are well before sunrise.
This particular morning we were leaving behind the Tsingy National Park to make our way to the airport in Morondava to catch a flight north to Nosy Be. Although the distance is not very big, the roads are really bad so it takes a while to get there. On top of that, a very important thing is to time the river ferry crossings well, otherwise you end up spending hours just waiting for the next ferry to fill up.
This image was taken during one of these river crossings and I only got one shot as the whole scene happened really quickly. Although I had to do quite a bit of post-processing on this one (a couple of fairly strong Photoshop curves) I’m very happy with the result.
