As the weather is getting better and better in Dubai, there’s more and more opportunities for going out and shooting the city’s constantly growing skyline. Yesterday I spent a great afternoon shooting with Ian who was in Dubai for a day. We’ve been talking about shooting together for a while now and it was great to finally meet Ian in person and exchange some ideas about photography.

He’s already posted a couple of awesome shots of the Dubai skyline and although I also have a couple of images of the Business Bay area I thought I’ll post a more abstract kind of shot first. Over the last couple of months I have been looking more and more at shooting very “architectural” images, with simple lines and yesterday while we were shooting the skyline from the roof of a 46 stories tall building I happened to look up and see these really interesting building features that made me feel like I was in the middle of a tetris game.

I did have to do quite a bit of perspective correction and I’m sure someone will notice something that I’ve probably missed, but overall, I’m fairly happy with the image.

Looks pretty square to me. Perspective tools can be tricky. Sometimes you stare too long at an image and can’t see the curves anymore, so you need to leave it and come back to it. Looks great, though.

Great shot, Catalin – well seen and well executed. Nice work, and nice shooting with you in Dubai!

Thanks Kris. There’s still a slight barrel distortion that I might go back and correct.
