Tram 28

July 24th, 2011

There’s probably no better way to see Lisbon than from the old tram 28 line. Tram 28 is the tram that winds its way through the narrow, steep streets of Lisbon, passing many tourist attractions and providing a window into the older times of the city. The small, yellow tram makes for great pictures and although it can get quite busy with tourist it still has a lot of charm. As a tip, if you are planning on using the tram a lot buy a Lisbon tourist card which gives you access to a lot of tourist attractions and lets you ride the tram for free for 24 or 48 hours (a normal one-way trip costs 2.50 Euros!).

Post-processing was a little bit more complicated as I wanted to tone the image a bit to give it more of an old feel. I’ve used a few curves for contrast correction and one curve for toning the image (using the red curve to add a bit more red and the blue curve to remove some of the blue out).

I like your choices here, the result looks terrfiic. I’m getting the hang of curves but I tend to over-steer them a bit, and end up with pretty wild, unpredictable results. Nice work, though, and a great shot.

I rode the trams around Instanbul and agree it was a great way to see the city from the street up!

Kris, one of the top tips for curves is to always watch your histogram at the same time. That way you tend to not under or overexpose.

I’ve also done the trams in Istanbul, but the one thing I really liked about the ones in Lisbon is that they are trying to keep the old school tram cars running.

Good advice Catalin. I love old looking shots. Sometimes I go straight to B & W with mine. Just like the feel of it. No nice trams here in Buenos Aires, but some nice architecture.
