Following a very successful travel adventure in Madagascar this summer where we captured some great images, I have been working hard at organizing a couple more travel photography workshops and the first one I’m ready to announce is an 8 days adventure through the amazing landscapes of Iceland. Now, if you’ve been a longtime reader of my blog you’ve probably heard me raving about Iceland quite a few times.
It’s an amazing country that just looks like it was made for landscape photography. It has beautiful waterfalls, lagoons with icebergs, geysers and the most stunning horses I have ever seen. On top of this, summer gives you almost 24 hours of daylight with gorgeous 2-3 hours sunsets and sunrises so you should be prepared to photograph well into the night. We’ll have time to sleep during the day when the light is not at its best!
The workshop will take place between July 4th and July 11th 2014 (7 nights / 8 days) with the first three days in the South of the country and the rest in the Westfjords, a beautiful region in the North-West part of Iceland. Scroll down for the exact details.
Day 1 – Arrival in Iceland and welcome dinner – meet at our hotel in the afternoon followed by welcome dinner so we can finally get to know each other (3* equivalent hotel in Reykjavik) – dinner included
Day 2 – Golden Triangle – after spending the night in Reykjavik, we make our way to the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall, stopping on the way at Geysir and Þingvellir photographing late into the evening (3* equivalent hotel in Reykjavik) – breakfast included
Day 3 – Jökulsárlón Lagoon – this is where we get to meet the icebergs at the glacier lagoon, one of Iceland’s most photographed landscapes (3* equivalent hotel in Reykjavik or closer to Jökulsárlón Lagoon) – breakfast included
Day 4 – Stykkisholmur – on day 4 we drive towards Stykkisholmur where we will spend a day and evening exploring the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, photographing amazing lighthouses, local churches and beautiful landscapes and seascapes (3* equivalent hotel in Stykkisholmur) – breakfast included
Day 5 and 6 – Ísafjörður – on days 5 and 6 we base ourselves in Ísafjörður to explore this part of the Westfjords with its stunning fjords. The sunsets here are breathtaking and we’ll again get to photograph some great landscapes, wrecks and even beaches (3* equivalent hotel in Ísafjörður) – breakfast included
Day 7 – Krossnes – We head deeper into the Westfjords where the landscapes get even more dramatic as we get closer to the Arctic Circle. To end the trip in style we’ll enjoy a swim in the hot pool at the end of the world. (3* equivalent hotel in Krossness or Djúpavík) – breakfast included
Day 8 – Return to Reykjavik – We drive back to Reykjavik to catch our flights and if there’s time we stop at the famous Blue Lagoon – breakfast included.
The necessary details
Here are the items included in the trip:
– Accommodation in three star equivalent hotels in double occupancy (single rates available on request)
– Welcome dinner
– 4×4 private car throughout the trip to access some of the more “off the beaten track” locations
– Photography tuition
Not included:
– Airfares to and from Iceland
– Travel insurance
– Camera gear insurance
– Airport transfer to and from Reykjavik (there are convenient buses from the airport to town)
If you book before January 15th you’ll enjoy an early-bird discount of US$200 for a total cost of US$2,300.
To maximize the tuition time and make sure we all get to actually talk to each other, the adventure is limited to only 8 people.
A minimum of 5 people need to sign-up until March 15th in order for this to take place and to secure your spot a deposit of US$700 will be needed. In case not enough people sign up until this date, all deposits will be returned in full.
In terms of flights, the easiest way is to fly via London as Iceland Express has very good connections between London and Reykjavik.
