Walking in Beirut

November 23rd, 2010

This is one of those images that I really had trouble naming. I’m also having quite a bit of difficulty just to tell you anything about it. It’s just a street scene from Beirut’s downtown with the Mohammed al-Amin Mosque in the background. I spent quite some time waiting for these 4 women to get in line with the mosque, but in the end I think it turned out ok.

As with all the portrait / tall images I post, if it doesn’t fit in your browser’s window I recommend zooming out from your browser (PC – CTRL and -)(MAC – Apple and -).

Fantastic picture! However I cant help but feel that I prefer the photograph in colour. Maybe it is due to the fact that the women are dressed in neutral shades with bright turquoise headscarves which closely resembles the colours of the mosque itself. I find that quite interesting…but that’s just me.

Don, you are right about this one. I was really torn between posting the colour or the black and white one and it’s exactly for the same reason you mentioned. The headscarves matching the mosque dome.

Catlin–re: bl & wt vs. color…had you considered creating this in black and white for everything except the scarves and the dome? Would that be too pointed? I like the photo journalism effect of black and white…also get the point about the blue synchronicity

April, I usually try and stay away from selective colour shots, but in this instance you might be right. It might have been an interesting approach.
