For quite a few years (I think it’s at least 15 years), I have been wanting to visit and photograph this monument in Bulgaria. I have seen a lot of photographs of it and quite a few stayed in my head (particularly the ones by David Nightingale). So when I knew I will be driving from Dubai to Europe again, I made the route in such a way that one of the stops in Bulgaria would be here. It actually was an amazing spot for camping so it wasn’t all just about the photography.
The monument was built in the ’70s on Buzludzha Peak in Bulgaria and it was all about the Bulgarian Communist party. After the fall of communism in Bulgaria in 1989, there was no more maintenance done to the place and only recently there has been some attention paid to the preservation of the building. Unfortunately, the building is not open anymore to the public.
