As a child, I always used to be fascinated by the world and its biggest rivers. I used to have one of those rotating earth globes and loved tracing the major rivers on it, many times stopping over the Euphrates and thinking that it’s a really cool sounding name. So last year during my road trip from Dubai to Romania, crossing the bridge over the Euphrates in Turkey marked a major milestone for me. It felt like I was crossing this important border, which has been crossed for thousands of years by merchants traveling east or west along the Silk Route.
This photograph is taken from the Eastern side of the river as we were approaching the bridge.
