The Stari Most (Old Bridge) in Mostar
We have just come back from exploring Bosnia and Herzegovina and it was a wonderful short break full of fresh mountain air, turquoise rivers and lots of history. Although we based ourselves in Sarajevo, we spent a lot of time driving around the country, including a night in the beautiful city of Mostar.
Mostar’s Stari Most (translated as old bridge) was unfortunately destroyed in 1993 during the war after standing for 427 years and it was rebuilt and reopened in 2004 using the same type of stones and the same design. The city is pretty quiet at the moment so it was quite a privilege to be able to photograph it without the usual crowds around it. We were completely alone on the banks of the river the morning I made the photograph above.
