I have been going to Oman now for about 10 years, most times, on short long-weekend trips and I’ve come to know the country quite well. It’s a beautiful place with really friendly people and landscapes so varied that you could easily feel you’re going through a few different countries in the space of a 3-4 hour drive.
Because the south of Oman catches the tail-end of the Indian monsoon season, I have been going towards that region since the summer of 2004 to kitesurf. The wind is strong, the waves are always there and one of the usual spots where we usually go to is the small village of Aseelah which has beautiful wide beaches perfect for watersports.
I have always noticed this house just outside Aseelah and although I’ve always wanted to stop and photograph it, somehow it never happened. Until this year… Unfortunately, the weather was not at its best, with the sky lacking any kind of detail, but at least I took some photos this time. The house is in the middle of nowhere and everything about it makes it unique. The architecture is very different from anything else you might see in the region, while the garden is literally bursting out over the fences. I really wish I knew the story behind it…
