Probably one of my favourite places to watch the sunset over the Arabian desert, Bab Al Shams is a luxurious hotel set amidst the dunes that has a great rooftop terrace perfect for this time of year. I’ve taken photographs there before, but I can always seem to find a new angle from which to photograph the Arabic lamps set against the setting sun.
A funny thing that happened at my last visit was that while I setup my tripod to capture the sunset, one of the waiters came to me to tell me that “professional photography is not allowed”. So I took the camera off the tripod, placed it flat on a wall and asked him if this was ok. He said yes and I snapped the shot below. Did it make it less “professional” without the tripod? Not sure about that…
UPDATE: Based on Jason’s comment below, I have cleaned up an area of the image where I didn’t notice a bit of sensor dust.
