One thing we tried as much as possible to do in New Zealand was to explore the hikes close to each place we were going to. Having a six year old with us meant they had to be fairly easy, but we did manage to do quite a few, including a beautiful walk to the Devils Punchbowl Waterfall just as the late afternoon light was hitting the face of the waterfall.
The waterfall is 131 meters tall and it’s very close to Arthur’s Pass on New Zealand’s South Island. Even the walk up to it is a beautiful track through some amazing forest. One thing I loved in New Zealand was how good the website for the Department of Conservation is. It lists all the hikes you can do in a particular place with extensive information about the difficulty of the hike.
