Early morning in Mumbai
A few months ago when I went to Mumbai for a quick weekend photo trip, everything happened so quick that I hardly had time to register the fact that I was in a city that has more people than many countries and that there is so much to photograph around you. But I’m working on rectifying this by going through my images I shot then and by planning a photography workshop sometime in October / November.
The shot you see to the left was taken early morning on our second day in Mumbai and it’s pretty much the exact opposite of every other shot I have from that weekend. Most of the images are busy, with many things going on, while this one is almost surreal. It’s just two guys on a boat, fishing, in front of an important religious monument (Haji Ali Dargah) that usually by lunchtime is teaming with life.
As for the post-processing, I really struggled with this image in terms of black and white or colour. I went for the colour version in the end, purely because of the nice light on Haji Ali Dargah, however, the black and white version also had its merits.
