I can’t claim to have seen all the cities in Morocco, but in my opinion (and listening to what other people have said), Essaouira is the pearl of Morocco. A little town at the Atlantic Coast with a beautiful Medina (old town), Essaouira has a very relaxed atmosphere, with lots of art galleries and beautiful riads to spend the night in.
We stayed in a place called Dar Afram, a beautiful old house converted into a guesthouse. The people were very friendly and luckily we arrived on a Friday evening when everybody gathers around a pot of tagine. The guesthouse has a lovely little common area, where you can have breakfast before you go out to explore the town. On the roof you can have a drink, suntan and just chill out. The rooms are basic, but clean.
Besides its beautiful Medina, Essaouira is famous for its wind all-year-round and I couldn’t pass the opportunity to kitesurf for a few hours. The conditions were not ideal, with the wind being quite gusty, but the setting was amazing!
