As you might know from all the media hype, the Dubai Air Show 2011 was in full swing with a constant flow of airplanes passing over the city while at the same time the annual GPP FotoWeekend event is happening here in Dubai with some great courses on offer. David Nightingale has been coming to the GPP events for quite some time now and over the years we have become friends and every year we try to squeeze a shoot together somewhere in the ever-changing landscape of Dubai.
On Monday afternoon we met up and made our way up to the roof of the Executive Tower B in Business Bay and came across the most friendly security guard I’ve ever met in Dubai. Not only he allowed us to shoot, but gave us pointers to minimize the risk of us getting kicked out by his bosses! By this time, you must be wondering why I was talking about the Dubai Air Show at the beginning of the post. Well, after about 10-15 minutes of shooting we started to notice planes doing aerobatic moves right above the Dubai skyline. Although they weren’t particularly close, I had a long lens with me and managed to capture the shot below. The idea with framing the Burj Khalifa like that on the left wasn’t mine (as usual, David’s eyes spot these things very fast!), but I’m happy with the way the planes are also in the frame after what looked like a high G flying maneuver.
