We woke up early one morning and headed down from Malaga along the “Costa del Sol” all the way to Tarifa, where Europe gets very close to Africa. On the way we stopped to have a look through the famous town of Marbella, where all the rich and famous seem to be going. Well the only people we saw at 11 in the morning were old people taking their morning walk and a couple of really dodgy looking families tanning their big bellies in the morning sun. So off we went towards Tarifa… Passing through Algeciras we spotted Gibraltar, but unfortunately we did not have enough time to make the detour.
Tarifa is a lovely little town, very chilled out and it feels a world away from the busy Costa del Sol. Famous for its winds throughout the windsurfing and kitesurfing communities, it has a long stretch of white sandy beach at the Atlantic where in the peak season you can see as many as 200-300 windsurfers and kitesurfers. When we were there the wind was off-shore so I couldn’t have a go with a kite.
