We went to Morocco in the middle of April, 2007 for 12 days. I always wanted to visit Morocco and it only seemed natural to try and go to as many places as possible in the time available. We landed in Casablanca, from where we took a train to Marrakech and from there straight on a bus to Essaouira. We stayed a couple of nights in Essaouira, then back to Marrakech for a few days and from there on a train again all the way to Fes. This is an 8 hours train ride, but the trains in Morocco are very comfortable and a 1st class ticket is not expensive. Unfortunately the train goes to Fes via Casablanca and unlike the bus trip you do not get to see the Atlas Mountains. After spending a few days in Fes, we headed north to Rabat, the most “European” city of Morocco. From there, back to Casablanca where we boarded a plane heading to Dakhla in the Western Sahara.
