This week: Sipadan Island, Borneo, Malaysia
For those of you who don’t know, Borneo is an island close to Malaysia, Indonesia and the Phillipines. The island is almost evenly split between Malaysia and Indonesia with a very small part belonging to the Sultanate of Brunei. The eastern side of the island is facing the Celebes Sea where Sipadan Island can be found. Sipadan is a very unique island because it sits at the top of an extinct volcano 600 meters above the see bottom and because of this the diving here is amazing. Only 25 meters away from the beach the depth drops to 600 meters and diving along the wall puts you face to face with big schools of barracudas, jacks and hammerhead sharks. We went for 2 days to the island, one day scuba diving and the other just snorkeling the closer reefs. Even just snorkeling here is amazing and in an hour you can see as many as 50 green back turtles.
