Rising from the fountain
Being based in Dubai and running a photoblog in the summer is not an easy feat. If you’re not traveling around the region, it’s difficult to make anything of the hazy skies that we get here for 3-4 months in the middle of the summer months. Your only option is to start “seeing” creatively and find new angles from which to shoot the same places that in the winter look good as a landscape shot.
This is exactly what I tried to do in the shot below. I’ve photographed The Address Hotel quite a few times, but never with the Dubai Mall fountain in front of it. I think this photograph works, not only because the spray from the fountain suggest that haziness in the atmosphere, but also because I was able to shoot slightly underexposed and give some colour to the sky. Of course, I would love to know what you think.
