I’ll just come out and say it! Today was probably one of the most spectacular sunsets I’ve witnessed in Dubai and as it happened I was close to the Burj Al Arab with my trusty D800 and a couple of ND filters to capture it.
It started as a fairly normal late afternoon shoot and I was out with both of my cameras on the beach close to Burj Al Arab. One of the cameras was set to capture a timelapse of the fast moving clouds, while the plan for the other camera was to play around with some fairly long exposures (in the 4 minutes range) trying to come up with a new angle I haven’t shot from before. As the sun got lower and lower towards the horizon, the colours got brighter and brighter and for about 5 minutes the whole sky looked like it was part of beautiful impressionist painting. When I saw this shot, I didn’t even wait for blue hour anymore. I knew I was done for the day. 🙂
If you roll-over to see the original (straight out of the camera) shot, you’ll see I haven’t done much to it in post except for a slight bump in contrast and colour. As always, I would love to hear what you think.
