If you’ve been following on Instagram our trip through South Africa over the last couple of weeks (the stories are all in the South Africa highlights) you would have seen we’ve spent a couple of days in a beautiful game reserve called Gondwana. Although the big animals don’t really roam free in this part of South Africa, this particular reserve is 11,000 hectares big so the animals live as close as possible to their natural habitat – there is no feeding – the lions catch their own prey.
During the game drives, we’ve spotted pretty much everything there was to be spotted (except for leopards, which not even our guide had seen yet although he was working there for over a year), but for me, the lion pictured above was the most special encounter. Mostly because he was almost posing for the entire time we were there, turning its head on all sides to make sure we photograph him from all angles. Although I am definitely not a wildlife photographer, I really enjoyed spending some time with a camera in front of these beautiful animals.
