One of the great advantages of traveling with a tent strapped to your car is that you can stop just about anywhere for the night, particularly beautiful, deserted places where there is no light pollution and the night sky is at its best.
This was the case with the Kaluts Desert in Southern Iran – no people and no lights for miles, just us and the sky above. I don’t think I’ve ever counted so many satellites passing above our heads and when the Milky Way made its appearance, it was like the culmination of a great cosmic show. I was busy enjoying the sky so the perfect is by no means perfect, but sometimes it’s more important to enjoy the moment rather than capture it.
