This particular shot started out as something quite different than what you see here. It was taken in what Emaar calls “the old town”, the area around Burj Dubai (for those of you not living in this neck of the woods, that’s the tallest building in the world). Of course, there’s nothing old about this area, all of it being built in the last 3-4 years. I had this idea of trying somehow to show that by taking a very wide panorama and including in it some of the “older” looking buildings as well as the tall skyscrapers popping up everywhere.
Unfortunately a combination of cranky security guards and construction fences made me choose a poor angle for the shot and the images ended up not really aligning very well. So I ended up using just one of the several shots that were intended for the final panorama. By the way what is it with Emaar Properties, security guards and the obsession of not letting you take pictures as soon as your camera looks a little bit more “professional”?!
One more thing… Until Etisalat decides to make good on its “maximum 14 days for Internet installation!” that their customer service likes to tell you when you call 101, I will mention this on every single blog post! It has now been 17 days since I subscribed and no connection in sight! Will they block my site for saying this?!
