Back from school
The old neighbourhood of Deira in Dubai feels like a completely different place than the glitzy side of Dubai, void of skyscrapers and shiny glass buildings, but full of life and interesting street scenes at every corner. I’ve been spending quite a bit of time there in the last few weeks and I think I’m slowly becoming addicted. I’ve always enjoyed walking there, but when you actually slow down and watch the people going about their daily life, it all becomes even more exciting.
Yesterday, I noticed the late afternoon light falling on the side of the street so I got myself positioned exactly opposite, behind a car waiting for people to pass through the light. Five minutes later, this kid passed through, holding a copy of the Quran under his arm, probably making his way home from school.
