Sometimes you don’t have to wait for a long time for a favourite photograph to happen and this was the case with the image above photographed about 30 minutes after we had arrived in the field in South Sudan. I was there to document Carter Center’s efforts to eradicate the Guinea Worm Disease and part of the brief was to photograph the daily life in the Kapoeta region.
We spotted this kid as we were arriving in the camp and we grabbed our gear and ran across the field, racing against the setting sun and the disappearing light. The kid’s job was to chase away the birds from the village crop and he handled that whip very effectively.
