Watching the amazing footage from yesterday’s volcanic eruption on Stromboli Island just north of Sicily, I thought I’ll post one more image of the imposing Mount Etna, one of the more famous volcanoes in the world. If you’re living there, it’s tough not to always think that at any given moment the volcano might decide to erupt, destroying everything in its path. The strange thing about volcano eruptions – particularly the slower ones where lava keeps flowing for days, weeks and even months – is that that’s very little that can be done to stop the lava. Nature is just so powerful that the only thing you can do is get out of the way.
