Standing still
Weather here in Dubai has been brutally hot for the last few days with temperatures hovering around 45-47 degrees and humidity close to 90%. This is not photography friendly weather! Besides the fact that the air has a certain muggy quality to it that doesn’t go very well with photography, your lenses fog up instantly when you take them outside.
Because of this, summer is a great time to go through older photographs and post the ones that didn’t make it on the blog at the time they were taken. The shot below was taken at about the same as this image on a beautiful late afternoon next to the famous Burj Al Arab hotel. Along with Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab is probably one of the most photographed landmarks in Dubai and to try and come up with some different kind of shots, that afternoon I was experimenting a lot with very long exposure images using two ND (neutral density) filters stacked together. I believe this particular image was a 3 minute exposure and that’s the main reason why the image has this sort of dreamy feel to it. The water gets very flat on an exposure like this and the submerged rocks show up as shadows.
