As I sit in front of my computer sheltered from the 40 degrees Celsius outside, I am looking through some of the camping images I photographed this season. The weather is now too hot in the UAE for camping (particularly in the desert) and yesterday I removed the roof top tent from the car storing it for the summer. Our plan this year was to spend the summer driving to Mongolia, but with everything that’s going on in the world, that’s obviously not possible. We will try to save the summer most likely by doing a few smaller road trips through Europe and hopefully look forward to some longer ones next year or this coming winter.
The photograph above was taken during one of my favourite camping trips this year, a two night trip through the Rub Al Khali (Empty Quarter) desert. Although the photograph is not the usual polished landscape photograph I publish, for me it really shows what camping is all about – huge empty spaces and time spent with family and friends. And as a cute detail, my three year old son (visible in this photograph as a few small red pixels) was as sad as myself when we removed the tent off the car.
