If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you would have noticed that I’ve been spending a few days in Kazakhstan – Almaty for 3 days and then Astana for 3 days. It’s been a really interesting trip so far (my first in the former USSR “Stan” countries) and I definitely wish I had a lot more time to explore more of the country.
In Almaty we were quite lucky with the friendly people at Intercontinental who were kind enough to engage with us on social media and allow us to explore every part of their beautiful hotel, including a rooftop with an amazing view over the mountains to the South of the city pictured in the photograph above. I was up there just before 5am, in time to catch the first sun rays hitting the city.
If you’re visiting Almaty, definitely give the InterContinental Hotel a try as it’s in a great location, easy to access from the airport, within walking distance to most of the interesting attractions in the city and just 30 minutes of driving from the cable car going up to the Shymbulak ski resort (more on that on a future post).
