As you can probably imagine, being an architectural photographer in Dubai means I get to see quite a few buildings, particularly highrises and that means my database of images sometimes acts like an archive of a growing city.
Nowhere else is this more obvious than in this particular location which I have first photographed in 2001 (it was not a great photo, but still it’s interesting to remember where I started). I have pretty much photographed the Dubai skyline from this place almost every year and I imagine in 20-30 years these images will make for an interesting record.
It’s also a record of how the cameras have changed over the years – in 2001 I was using a film camera, while for this image above, I was lucky enough to use the amazing 100MP, Fujifilm GFX 100 II which is quite the machine. What impressed me the most about this camera is not necessarily the amazing quality of the images – that was pretty much expected, but how small the body is and well balanced it feels in my hands.
