I will leave the foggy images of Dubai alone for a bit and revert to my adventure in the Rub Al Khali (Empty Quarter) desert in the Western region of the United Arab Emirates to show you some more of its incredible sand dunes.
You know that the desert is huge, but seeing it from the air really gives you a sense of how big these sand dunes are and how varied in terms of shape. Some look very orderly, while others seem to look like some monster snakes made out of sand. Having recently re-read Frank Herbert’s Dune, it’s impossible for me not to think of the imaginary Arrakis planet and it’s massive sand worms.
