Considering what is happening at the moment in Europe, I wanted to post another photograph from this old continent which has gone through so many changes over the years.
I made this photograph last year while driving along the Albanian coastline, a place I always wanted to visit and photograph. Albania has always been a bit of an unknown in Europe, with many of us watch the news from the early ’90s when the country was in a huge financial and social trouble. I spent quite a few days crossing the country and I find it amazing how, after talking with so many people, most of them would love to have a bigger say in Europe, while a lot of Western Europe is gravitating towards being a smaller part of Europe, towards more independence being worried precisely about this desire of the poorer countries to be part of something larger.
History will probably show us in a couple of years which way was the right way, but for my part I will always hope that we move more towards inclusiveness rather than divisiveness.
